Sam Kiley is a Kenyan born award-winning journalist with over 20 years of experience within high-risk zones which has resulted in him being shot and wounded in the Arm while reporting on a coup in Lesotho. Kiley began his career as a foreign correspondent with The Sunday Times in LA before moving to Africa where his correspondent career spanned a decade. Since then his worked in a variety of places including London, Nairobi, Johannesburg, Jerusalem, and Abu Dhabi.  

 

He has written for The Daily Mail, Mail on Sunday, The Economist, Sunday Times, The Spectator and numerous other publications, as well as reporting for the likes of Channel 4, BBC Two, Sky News and Sky One on a global scale.

 

Kiley is the author of Desperate Glory: At war in Helmand with Britain’s 16 Air Assault Brigade, a book detailing his experiences as the only journalist ever to cover a full six-month tour in Afghanistan in 2008. The book won the award for 2009 Economist book of the year.

 

Sam Kiley is now based in Abu Dhabi as a senior international correspondent at CNN’s Abu Dhabi Bureau and strives to report on high-risk situations globally.
